     WHEN FORMS TALK

There are sculptors who struggle to recreate with patient meticulousness the apparent reality of men and things. Others use that inspiration to create a new plastic harmony, based on a clever play of volumes and shapes that reach, on some occasions, an unusual beauty. But there is another important group, with distinguished artists such as Pablo Gargallo or Picasso that fought to give form and presence to life, translating into bronze the anxiety and joy of living in a figurative expression full of strength and beauty.

Jorge Castro Flórez, great Spanish sculptor trained in America, belongs to this group. His work, even in smaller pieces, has the essential potential for monumentality.

An ethical and social commitment infuses his moving artistic expression in which man is the protagonist of the story and where one can feel echoes of Greek tragedies and forgotten dances.

His continued presence in the International Fairs of Innsbruck, Salzburg, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf, and his repeated exhibitions in Montreal, Vienna, Newcastle (UK), Ottawa and Quebec (Canada), Roermond (Netherland) and Paris have not prevented him from presenting his sculptures in Spain, always accompanied by success.

Jorge Castro Flórez was an artist engaged in his time, hurt when witnessing social injustice, despair and failure of man. An artist who mixed in his work an agonizing cry of protest while whispering a love poem.
